Our “Caring for Caregivers” program focuses on the principles of grief, loss, and acceptance. Our trainers empower groups of caregivers with tools that allow for acceptance and openness to discuss the challenges of caring and advocating for a child or loved one with a disability. The program provides strategies for coping and for wellness, in addition to functioning as a support group for the individuals who attend the training. It provides further resources and referrals to appropriate professionals as needed, for needs that are beyond our scope of practice.
Every person deserves dignity no matter their ability or where they are located on the globe. Mental health is still considered a taboo subject in many areas of the world, despite the overwhelming need for support and resources globally. Caregivers of those with disabilities are often overlooked and isolated when it comes to their own mental health, and this program aims to address their needs so that they can best advocate for and support their loved one.
Each month, TBB Certified Trainers identify a community in need and organize a training. The training combines lecture content with lively participant engagement, while de-stigmatizing disability and fostering supportive relationships among the community. TBB Certified Trainers collect pre and post-test data and document presentations through pictures and/or videos. TBB Certified Trainers play a pivotal role in the expansion of our impact by training additional individuals, which continuously extends our program’s reach.
